The OGREISH System Reference Document (SRD) is available for use under the OGREISH System License (OSL) 1.0. This license governs how creators may use the OGREISH SRD to create derivative works, while maintaining proper attribution and legal clarity.
Section 1: Purpose
The OGREISH System License (OSL) 1.0 grants you permission to use the OGREISH System Reference Document (SRD) to create derivative works, whether for commercial or non-commercial purposes. This license allows flexibility in how derivative works are shared while requiring attribution and respecting the original SRD.
- Notes:
This license applies solely to the text and rules mechanics of the OGREISH SRD and does not cover illustrations, images, or other media unless explicitly stated.
Section 2: License and Attribution Options
When creating a derivative work using the OGREISH SRD, you must choose one of the three license modes below. If you do not explicitly specify which license you are using, your work will default to the Closed License.
Option 1 – Open License
Your derivative work is made available under the same OSL terms for others to freely use, adapt, and redistribute.
- Usage Requirements:
Future creators may use, adapt, and distribute all elements of your work under the OSL. - Attribution:
You must include the following attribution:
“This work is based on the Ogreish System Reference Document (SRD) and is licensed under the OSL as an Open License.” - Notes:
This choice is irrevocable once declared.
Your full derivative work is open for reuse under the same terms.
Option 2 – Partial License
Only specific elements of your derivative work are made open under the OSL.
- Usage Requirements:
You must clearly define which parts are open under the OSL.
Any unspecified parts are not open for further use. - Attribution:
You must include the following attribution:
“This work is based on the Ogreish System Reference Document (SRD) and is licensed under the OSL as a Partial License. [Specify which parts are open under the OSL.]” - Notes:
This choice is irrevocable once declared.
Partial elements must be clearly marked or listed.
Option 3 – Closed License
Your derivative work does not allow others to reuse or adapt it under the OSL.
- Usage Restrictions:
Others may not use, adapt, or redistribute your derivative work under this license.
This does not affect their rights to use the original OGREISH SRD. - Attribution:
You must include the following attribution:
“This work is based on the Ogreish System Reference Document (SRD) and is licensed under the OSL as a Closed License.” - Notes:
This provides full IP control while still using the SRD framework.
Others can still make separate works from the original SRD.
Section 3: Irrevocable Clause
All OSL license choices (Open, Partial, Closed) are irrevocable. Once your work is released under a specific OSL mode, you cannot change or withdraw it for that version or release. This ensures stability for downstream creators.
Section 4: Attribution Placement
Attribution must appear in a clear, legible way, either in:
- The credits section (for print or PDF works),
- A visible section in digital/online works (such as About or License pages).
It must also include:
- A link to the full OSL text.
- A link to the original OGREISH SRD.
Section 5: Optional Reference Graphics
You may include the OGREISH logotype in your work to indicate use of the SRD. This is optional and does not affect your license status.
OGREISH logotype high resolution

OGREISH logotype low resolution

OGREISH logotype vector format
Section 6: Warranty Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
This license is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. The original authors of the OGREISH SRD are not liable for any damages, claims, or disputes arising from the use of the SRD or any derivative works.
Section 7: Termination Clause
If you breach any of the terms of this license, your rights under the OSL are automatically terminated. Upon termination, you must immediately cease distribution of any materials using the OGREISH SRD.
The original author may pursue remedies under the laws of Sweden, unless otherwise mutually agreed in writing.
Section 8: Definitions
- “Derivative Work” refers to any original content, modules, rules, hacks, settings, or expansions that incorporate or build upon the OGREISH SRD.
- “You” refers to the individual or entity creating the derivative work.
- “SRD” refers specifically to the OGREISH System Reference Document and its mechanical content.
Section 9: Governing Law
This license is intended to be interpreted according to generally accepted principles of contract and copyright law.
Where required by local legal systems, the applicable governing law shall be that of the jurisdiction where the creator of a derivative work resides or is registered.
The original authors of the OGREISH System Reference Document retain the right to enforce this license under the laws of Sweden.
